Microbrand Watch – March Update 🇬🇧
March feels like a big step forward for the channel.
British Watchmakers’ Day takes place on 7 March, and for the first time, Microbrand Watch will be there properly — filming, spending time with brands, and hopefully meeting a good number of you in person. It feels like an important moment, not because anything dramatic is changing, but because it marks the channel moving from being purely online into being part of the wider independent watch conversation in a more visible way.
I’m genuinely looking forward to it.
⭐ Review of the Month: Golby Aquareef 40
British Watchmakers’ Day Limited Edition
This month’s spotlight had to be the British Watchmakers’ Day limited edition Aquareef 40 from Golby.
It’s always interesting reviewing a watch that’s tied to a specific event. There’s an atmosphere around it before you even put it on the wrist, and the temptation is to let that context carry some of the weight. The challenge, as always, is to strip that away and ask a simple question: does it stand up on its own?
The Aquareef platform already wears extremely well. The proportions are balanced, it feels solid without being excessive, and it has a clear identity that Golby has been refining with confidence. What I wanted to understand with this edition was whether it felt genuinely special beyond the limited-run narrative.
After living with it for several days, I think it does. It retains the practicality and wearability that make the Aquareef such an easy daily watch, but there’s a sense of occasion to this one that feels earned rather than applied.
As always, the review focuses on how it wears and how it made me feel over time, rather than turning into spec recital!

🇬🇧 British Watchmakers’ Day – 7 March
I’ll be at the show all day on the 7th, and the plan is to do it properly.
That means filming hands-on content with as many brands as possible, taking the time to form real impressions rather than just capturing quick clips, and speaking to the founders and teams behind the watches. It also means making time to meet you. If you’re attending, please do come and say hello. One of the best parts of building this channel has been the conversations it creates, and it’s always good to put faces to names.
At 5pm, we’ll also be drawing the winner of the Golby Coastal live at the event, with Craig doing the honours himself. The draw will go out live on our Instagram channel.
Everyone subscribed to this newsletter is already entered, whether you’re attending or not, so there’s nothing extra you need to do. I’ll share the outcome afterwards for those who can’t make it, but it should be a fitting way to close what promises to be a very good day.
🎥 What’s Coming Next
There’s a strong run of reviews lined up over the next few weeks, including watches from Fathers, Lacite, and Monro, alongside a steady stream of British Watchmakers’ Day coverage.

It’s a varied mix, which I like. Some of these pieces lean towards restrained, heritage-led design, while others are far more assertive and contemporary. That contrast is part of what makes the independent space so interesting at the moment, and it’s something I’ll continue to explore in the way I approach each review.
A Question for You
I’d like your input on something.
Most watch reviewers include a detailed on-screen spec sheet at some point in their videos — a clear block showing dimensions, movement, materials, lume type and so on. So far, I’ve deliberately chosen not to do that. Instead, I tend to weave the specifications into the narrative and focus more on how those numbers translate into real-world wear.
However, I’m conscious that different viewers value information differently.
Would you like to see a more formal spec sheet moment in future reviews, or do you prefer the more conversational approach as it stands?
Reply to this email and let me know. The channel is still at a stage where thoughtful feedback can genuinely shape how it evolves.
Thanks, as always, for being part of this.
If you’re coming to British Watchmakers’ Day, I look forward to seeing you there. If not, I’ll make sure you still feel like you were in the room.
